This is an absolutely amazing Antique/Vintage Carved Jade Sterling Silver Kuan Yin/Quan Yin Altar that is signed! I really Love this piece and would never sell this if I was independently wealthy. But since I'm not, I am offering this to all of you! I acquired this piece several years ago and this is very crazy because the carved Jade and Silver Bowl I also have listed has the same signature on it! I acquired these years apart, so I was very shocked when I realized that they had the very same "signature" or "maker's mark" on the bottom! The pink jade bowl may also be from the same artisan since they are so similar-however the mark has been worn off with age on this piece unfortunately. This piece is stunning! The Jade is carved into an arch, with Kuan Yin inside! I am always amazed at how stone can be carved to be rounded! I am calling this Jade because that is what I was told when I purchased this-and it is definitely a hard stone. However, when people see this they usually think that it is Malachite-but I don't think it is Malachite either. This feels like a Green Quartz to me. Regardless, it is beautiful! The base is made of Sterling Silver. I felt that it was and my Asian friends confirmed the "silver" character mark on the bottom. The base measures about 4 1/2 inches wide, 3 1/4 inches deep, and 1/2 inch thick! Then there is another, smaller base on top of that measuring about 3 1/4 inches wide, 1 7/8 inches deep, and 1/4 inch thick! This is followed by the Jade Arch and bottom, with Silver detailing the front and sides of the arch-while the back of the arch is solid Silver! There is a Silver Phoenix on 1 side, and Silver Dragons on the other side and the top! Kuan Yin sits within the Jade Temple and is also Silver! Kuan Yin was one of the first Goddesses I felt a strong connection to...she is the Goddess of Mercy, Love, and Compassion! One of the female Buddha's, Kuan Yin was offered "enlightenment or Nirvana" but she turned it down saying..."No, there's too much pain and suffering on the planet! I'm not going until we ALL reach Enlightenment"! This is now called the vow of the Boddhisatva and it is believed that there are many of us here now on the planet that have taken this vow to help bring about this shift of Mass Awakening! This Kuan Yin is very beautiful! She is sitting on a lotus base, holding her bottle in one hand while the other is in a mudra! She is extremely detailed! You can even see the beads around her neck! Behind her are flames! The entire piece measures 4 1/2 inches wide, 4 3/4 inches tall, and 3 1/2 inches deep! This is in amazing condition for it's age! I was not able to locate any damage! There is a lovely patina formed on this, but I do not consider that damage and will leave cleaning this for the new owner if they choose to do so! Often, items like this contain consecrated items inside, like ashes from lamas, or prayer scrolls! i have no way of knowing if this does without damaging it! Please see pictures!
